Vegan Cookies Invade the LES

The prolific and lovely vegan icons Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero drew a large crowd to MooShoes on the Lower East Side last night for a signing of their new cookbook Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar. I’m not a big sweets person, but I’m also not one to pass up free food and the chance to meet other NYC vegans.

The event was reminiscent of the Mercy for Animals launch party a few months ago, with young, hip veggies mingling, enjoying free wine and nosh, and drooling over MooShoes’ stylish, cruelty-free shoes and accessories.

Plates of delicious cookies from recipes in the book continuously circulated the room, which meant I basically had cookies for dinner. (But I’m a grownup—I can do that if I like.) My faves included the spiced sweet potato blondie and the peanut butter, a cookie classic done perfectly. Isa and Terry warmly welcomed the crowd and said they knew any complaints about the cookies would end up on vegan blogs, a line that got a widespread chuckle.  (I was certainly not the only person there taking photos of the cookies for their blog—we should all swap links!)

And while the cookie cookbook looks wonderful, I’m still busy working my way through Veganomicon (and planning a scrumptious vegan Thanksgiving), so the cookies will have to wait. Christmas is just around the corner, though *hint!*.

Is this place really a shoe store, or it is a front for delicious vegan activities?

It’s both! It’s so amazing! 🙂

I have made most recipes from Terry & Chandra’s book: Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and if the cookie recipes are anything like the cupcake recipes…they will taste amazing…
