PurpleLotus_large“The repose of sleep refreshes only the body.  It rarely sets the soul at rest.  The repose of the night does not belong to us.  It is not the possession of our being.  Sleep opens within us an inn for phantoms.  In the morning we must sweep out the shadows.”

—Gaston Bachelard, French philosopher

I disagree somewhat. It is the morning that bothers me and the sleep that sets my “soul” at rest.

I have no idea what “The repose of the night does not belong to us. It is not the possession of our being.” is supposed to mean.

How about:

“Dreams are excursions into the limbo of things, a semi-deliverance from the human prison.” ~Henri Amiel

“I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can play together all night.” ~Bill Watterson, Calvin & Hobbes~

“A dream is a microscope through which we look at the hidden occurrences in our soul.” ~Erich Fromm

Nice quotes! I really like the Fromm. Also, Calvin & Hobbes are so freaking cute.

I’m not sure what that means, either. Fancypants French philosophers can just string any words together and sound smart.
