As if we all needed another reason to take the free ferry to Governors Island, they’ve opened some of the southern end (previously closed to visitors and full of decommissioned Coast Guard buildings) and started a three-acre garden! The garden is sustainable, organic, and will be providing produce to a farm stand and to the new Water Taxi Beach on the island.

On Governors I., an Organic Farm With a View

Very, very cool. And apparently you can show up on weekends and volunteer to get your hands dirty. All within a stone’s throw of the Statue of Liberty.

No word on if they will host garden parties there like this awesome one in 1910.

I always say, “Party like it’s 1910.”
